    Summary

Personal Journals, the debut album from Sage Francis, was originally released on Anticon Records in 2002. Since then, Sage has been on countless national and international tours, released his 1st album for Epitaph Records, "A Healthy Distrust", and started his own record label, Strange Famous Records.

One of the best selling indie-hop records to date, Personal Journals defined a fresh new era for the underground music world. In 2007, Personal Journals fell back into the full ownership of Sage Francis, hence, the re-release of this ground breaking album on his independent label. The re-release of Personal Journals coincides with the release of Sage's new album (Human the Death Dance) on Epitaph Records.

Comment: The BEST album of 2002. Absolutely beautiful. Sage allows you to walk through his mind. These songs are at the peak of creativity and meaningfulness. Sage is the best mc out right now. The production takes you away and Sage’s flow drifts from song to song like a leaf caught in an up-drift. You must purchase and learn what all the hype is about.

Comment: I can't take this album out of my CD player. Sage's poetic rhyme-carrying style goes unmatched by any MC of our time, if not all-time. His spoken word skills deserve much recognition. Must-hear tracks on this album include “Crack Pipes,” “Different,” “Inherited Scars,” “Climb Trees,” “Smoke and Mirrors,” and “Message Sent,” but all the rest of the tracks are tight as well.

Comment: The lyrics are diverse in topic, the music is sublime, the ideas are original, and overall this is one of the best hip-hop albums I have heard in a really long time. Standout track: "Inherited Scars,” since his play with words is amazing. So get your book of semantics out and study- this album is an unbeatable force in this art- CHECK IT OUT!

Comment: This is tight. Sixtoo, Jel, Mayonaise, Controller 7, Joey Beats and a couple of other guys all contribute with banging moody beats. Sage may not be the happiest cat from Rhode Island but this album is dope as hell anyway.

Comment: The instrumentals didn’t keep my interest, I had to listen and pay attention to Sage to enjoy the album. It’s not something you can put in the background and chill to. Still dope album when in the mood. Also, be patient, the instrumentals grow on you.
