    Summary

The Motown group Slum Village has gone through a lot of b.s. over the last couple years, losing the ever-talented beatsmith J Dilla and emcee Baatin, the group has dwindled down to Elzhi and T3. Despite the strife the remaining members pulled it together for the group's fourth release Detroit Deli. Filling in the rather large shoes left behind by Dilla is fellow Rock City head BR Gunna who handles all the production (minus the Kanye West produced "Selfish"). The album also features microphone commissions from Jay Dee, veteran MC Breed, Dirt McGirt, Phat Kat and Dwele. Possibly one of their best releases complete with 15 new tracks.

Comment: I wish that they would have stuck to one producer!

Comment: Slum village has always been a head nod for me. Their vibe and smooth sound makes them one of the most respected groups in the detroit underground. This album is not their best but it is a good record. Songs like do you, selfish, count da ways, and reunion makes this album an easy listen. Its nice that j. dilla made an appearance vocal and production wise. The album would of sounded better with him on the whole thing. Anyway, the album is still good.

Comment: probably the best effort of the ones without dilla, but that still doesn't say much. elzhi is a nice add and a few tracks have that slum sound you'll be looking for but this is the start of their descent unfortunately... I hope they can reassemble the chemistry they had before some day. obviously no one will ever replace dilla
