    Summary

Calvin Broadus, better known to the public as Snoop Doggy Dogg, was introduced to the rap game on Dr. Dre's single Deep Cover in 1991 and followed up with his rhyming and writing skills on Dr. Dre's classic groundbreaking album The Chronic which featured Snoop including one of hip hop's most recognizable songs, Nuthin But A "G" Thang. In 1993 Snoop Doggy Dogg debuted his first solo album Doggystyle and he has been a major player in the rap game ever since. Doggystyle was the most eagerly anticipated album in rap history, and the first debut album to enter the Billboard chart at number 1. With advance orders of over one and a half million, media speculators were predicting its importance long before its release date, Snoop single-handedly put Long Beach on the map when it came to hip hop. Snoop as an active touring and recording artist is a living brand loved by virtually all hip hop fans, and now main stream music lovers around the world. He is a survivor and a consistent seller. Snoop continues to bless us with great musical hits such as "Beautiful", "Drop It Like It's Hot", and countless others.

The Lost Sessions Vol. 1 captures the early Death Row days of Grammy nominated artist Snoop Doggy Dogg when he was first developing his signature drawled, laconic rhyming. Among the hundreds of masters buried deep in the Vault, Death Row has uncovered some amazing musical gems of Snoop's earliest recordings. Features include- Jewell, Lady Of Rage, Nate Dogg, Technic, and production by Daz and the legendary Dr. Dre. These songs date back to the authentic production style of Dr. Dre when Death Row Records was first putting the original West Coast Gangsta G-Funk sound on the world map. These tracks act as an audio documentary to the stories and lifestyle that characterize the socio-economic conditions of the angry disenfranchised black youth who were all reacting to the chaos that was Southern California in the late eighties and early nineties. Authentic, hardcore, true to the streets and completely original, Snoop emerged as an MC who lived up all of his advance hype and went on to sell seven million copies of Doggystyle worldwide. His follow up album Tha Doggfather also entered the US album charts at #1. His music has continued to rule the clubs and airwaves over the last fifteen years. The Lost Sessions Vol. 1 brings it all back to the very beginning of Snoop's genius and is a must for young consumers hungry for the real deal hip hop as well as the uber Death Row fans who are clamoring for more rare and unreleased music from the Death Row Vault.

Comment: There is a reason this stuff was unreleased: IT IS NOT GOOD! Album is full of studio demos that lack much needed polish. It shows how bad Snoop can be. I like Snoop but this boring G Funk material should have stayed in the vaults. I am so happy I did not pay for this album. "Life's Hard" is the only worthwhile track on this album. I would dl the album but certainly not buy it!

Comment: This album does make me nostalgic of the G-Funk Era, but I wouldn't put this above the original Doggystyle album. I do agree if some of these tracks were packed into his debut album, it would've make it even more of a classic. People say they want him to keep making this style of music, but you gotta move forward in life with your skill and diversity. The times change, and sounds, styles, and trends get recycled (just like the G-Funk Era was a recycled version of the 70's Funk). His latest studio album, Ego Trippin, has a lot to offer with tracks like "Been Around the World", "One Chance", and "Press Play". The most interesting track on it has to be "Cool", which is Rick James reincarnated. But my favorite Snoop album of all time HAS to be Tha Last Meal cuz "...I don't want anybody, to get the wrong idea about me! I have nothin' to hide, I want to the world to see!"

Comment: Snoop Dogg is the Godfather of West Coast Hip-Hop, but why does Death Row continue to release these old albums. I won't be supporting this project, just for the mier fact that Suge Knight had something to do with its release.
