Summary

It's hard to believe it has been 3 years since Spectac & Amiri hit the scene with their debut album Almost Famous (HiPNOTT Records, 2010). Since then, the dynamic duo have amassed a total of 4 solo album between them: Spectac's For The People (HiPNOTT Records, 2013) and Spectac Returns (Domination Recordings, 2010); and Amiri's Vinyl Ritchie (HiPNOTT Records, 2012) and The Recipe (HiPNOTT Records, 2010). Jumping right back in where they left off, Spectac & Amiri release their sophomore collaborative album Soul Beautiful.

Inspired by the soulful sounds of the 60s and 70s, Soul Beautiful is comprised of 12 tracks containing the classic, fresh throwback sound of producer Amiri, and the vivid, poetic storytelling style of Spectac. Standouts include the album's first single, "I Grew Up", which includes an infectious hook by singer Najee; the no-holds-barred, 1930s sample-laced banger "This, That, & Tha 3rd"; and the smooth, mellow title track "Soul Beautiful".

ABOUT SPECTAC:
Over the years Spectac has gotten heavy media attention because of his involvement in both Hip Hop and education. The former school principal has been able to chart billboard while obtaining accolades such as 'Principal of the Year' which is probably still a phenomenon in the history of Hip Hop. His sophomore release titled Spectac Returns garnered much anticipation with features from 9th Wonder, Big Daddy Kane and a host of other artists. From feature interviews on NPR (National Public Radio), HipHopDX as well as countless show performances at music venues around the country the heads know and respect his art. Many know Spectac for his prowess as a freestyle emcee and others for his work as an educator. Regardless of how or what brought this charismatic character to your attention, all can agree that it's the music that keeps us looking forward to his return and he's done just that.

ABOUT AMIRI:
Not that it's missing, but Amiri wants appreciation when it comes to skills in the art of Hip Hop. Born and raised in South Carolina, Amiri was introduced to Hip Hop during his childhood through the sounds of Hip Hop pioneers like T La Rock, Kurtis Blow, and Run DMC. "Growing up, anything with rap music involved, I wanted to be a part of it". Crafting his skills as an MC was how it began, but Amiri realized behind the boards was his true gift.

Amiri is definitely not new to the game. In 1996 Amiri produced the remix to Mista's top ten single "Blackberry Molasses". Since then, Amiri has sharpened his skills and worked with many underground emcees such as Spectac, Blame One, Rubix from Mass Influence, Makeba Mooncycle and last but not least, A Tribe Called Quest on their reunion single "I C U (Doin It)" featuring Erykah Badu.

Comment: really nice smooth album. I like the flow of it. hiphop you can listen to in the morning. haha. only minus for me is the mastering job. his vocals sound so prominent and laid on top of the beat. but im an engineer and am probably just being anal. all in all solid effort.
