Comment: After getting this album and bumpin it for a week this is the hardest hitting album out period....... This is my album of the yr....There is maybe 2 joints that I'm not feeling, Oddisee is putting his stamp on things in a major way.... XO & Yu paint dark lyrics over hard grimy production.... Hopefully cats aren't sleepin on this fire...I give it a 4.5 all day !!!!

Comment: Diamond District is the type of project that DC hip hop heads have been anxiously awaiting for years. It’s the right combination of slick-produced boom bap beats and street-smart flows, plus the professional packaging and promotion that has long eluded indy releases from the nation’s capital.

Comment: It doesn't get any better than Diamond District's IN THE RUFF. The album especially picks up in the second half. Something that bugs me with hip hop cats is their inability to select singles that will push the album and give it the shine it deserves. I'm not sure why they went with "I Mean Business" as the lead single -- that joint is probably my least favorite on the LP, not that it sucks, though, there's just so many better joints to choose from. If they make a video, they should take the title track, "Streets Won't Let Me Chill", or perhaps Dunc-produced "The Shining" if they want to push the project to the next level. If '09 ended today, IN THE RUFF would easily be the album of the year. Skyzoo's The Salvation, Kenn Starr's Two Track Mind as well as Elzhi's The Feed are the only releases that I can see potentially knocking it off the number one spot.
