Summary

Los Angeles hip hop staples S.O.B. - Styles of Beyond return in a major way with their much awaited 3rd album. Executive produced by Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda, this project brings a strong barrage of larger-than-life production and undisputed lyricism mixed with the classic raw hip hop sound that the west coast Demigodz squad and Fort Minor frontmen are known for. Merging action packed rhymes, tongue in cheek humor and infectious hooks, "Reseda Beach" looks to deliver the perfect mix of that G**-damned rap music that's missing in today's market. This double-disc release showcases not only the album but it also contains a bonus disc featuring the tracks from their previous "Razor Rag" mixtape, minus the DJ shouts and mixing. Additionally, there are 3 completely unreleased songs included on the bonus disc as well. All in all, this 36-song 2-CD set features guest vocals from Mike Shinoda himself along with Apathy & Celph Titled (Demigodz/Army of the Pharaohs), Scoop Deville (Get Busy Committee/Producer for Snoop, Kendrick Lamar & Dr. Dre), Somaya Reece (VH1's Love & Hip Hop), Bishop Lamont (Aftermath alumni) and Alex 2Tone (True Love & False Idols). Production is handled by the group's in-house team of Vin Skully & Cheapshot, plus Mike Shinoda, J. Dilla, Scoop Deville, Apathy, Divine Styler, Aqua and Chumzilla.

Comment: This whole crew is solid, west coast demigodz. Production was good, very few weak joints on here. Ryu is one of the nicest spittin it right now but everybody in here deserves to shine. Nice LP fellas.

Comment: This was my first intro to S.O.B. and I was impressed. Even if some of the songs are “old”. I found myself loving at least 20 out of 36 songs. I consume a lot of Hip-Hop music and though the LP had a good West Coast feel, good beat, catchy hooks and worth of purchase which is hard to say in this day in age where it’s so easy to rip and download music. I like this enough to seriously think about and look forward to DEMIGODZ KILLmatic!

Comment: Medadef had that Mr Brown beat that I still like to this day. 2000 fold was in regular rotation for ages after it came out. They are good rappers and Vin Skully is the man with the beats but I feel lyrically if you've heard one of their tracks you've heard all of them. Kinda negative comment but if you can cite precedent as to why i'm wrong i'll take it into consideration.

Comment: Great album--I was a HUGE SoB fan off the first album in 1997. Megadef kind of sucked. But this has a mix of rock-rap Megadef style songs (that I hate) and stuff that harkens back to the 2000 Fold era. Hence, it's a great surprise release for 2012. Dig it!

Comment: I listened to this album only 1x so far but I personally think the content is super boring. There are a few catchy beats but the lyrics and content of the lyrics is pretty damn corny. If I was a freshmen in highschool I might think it was dope but these guys got to be in their 30's by now still making nerdy, party, beer drinking tracks with cheesy lyrics. I know my review is biased towards what I like but I think these guys are super overrated. I'm only reviewing disc one since it's the only new content and the 2nd disc is just a reissued mixtape without the DJ noise. I didn't feel like continuing on to the 2nd disc since the 1st one was typical suburban, white, nerd, party rap. I can think of about a million albums that are worse than this one but that doesn't make it good.

Comment: @Myster Tee actually te original version of Damn is the one with Buble. Back when it was recorded he was not a Grammy award winning star. So when this finally got to see the light of day his label wasn't having him come out on some independent underground Hip Hop LP unless they paid out the nose for the feature. So they had to rerecord the hook. At least they released that version for free so on my playlist version of the LP on iTunes/burned cd I just swapped out the songs.

Comment: Great album! But UGHH forgot to mention this album is 5 years old and was shelved when they we're signed to Warner Bros, either way it is dope and I also wondered what happened to the Damn remix with Buble, OG version is inferior.

Comment: Waited what? 7 years or so for this and it more than lived up to the hype I built up! This LP is hella dope! Razor Tag without the DJ hoopla was such an unexpected treat too! My favorite rap duo since 1999 when 2000 Fold dropped. I know SOB as a group maybe done but hopefully Ryu will change his mind and one day bless us with a solo LP... For now I'll be bumping this on the regular for the next decade or so!
