Product Details

Ten years after its initial & highly slept-on release, Fat Beats Records & Frozen Files are proud to present the first-ever reissue of UN Or U Out, the classic debut album from The UN.

Consisting of Roc Marciano, Dino Brave, Mike Raw, and Laku, the UN first emerged on Pete Rock's 2001 Petestrumentals album, a primarily all instrumental release minus two tracks-"Nothing Lesser" and "Cake", both featuring vocals by The UN. At the time, the group hadn't performed live and had no major release out, although Roc Marciano had already made his name as a member of Busta Rhymes' Flipmode Squad. Pete Rock fans were at first perplexed by the vocal appearance of an unknown group. Yet Pete not only had the confidence and foresight to introduce the four MCs, he also furthered the collaboration, making it full circle by lending production on "Game of Death (G.O.D.)" , "Avenue" and "Ain't No Thang" on UN or U Out.

UN or U Out remains a timeless listen, a deeply succinct homage to New York's bygone era of gritty boom-bap, made with tasteful nods to Queensbridge's cold-steel aesthetic.

Comment: Let me put it like this: roc is good, this is a solid album, but the competition is too f*ckin fierce...who is the competition? Illa ghee, shabaam sahdeeq, sean price, timeless truth, hus kingpin, smoovth, vinnie paz and aotp, planet asia, reks, blacastan (aotp), cormega, starvin b, union blak, barrel brothers, tristate, blu, awar damnnnn, copywrite, chino xl, vakill, tame one, stu bangas, locksmith, akrobatik, epidemic, halfcut, oc, dreamtek, malik b,esoteric g rap, etc etc etc the competition is too f*ckin fierce and roc is not keeping my interest high nowadays with his boring beats and throwback repetitive flows, he needs to originate and deliver the new.

Comment: The whole album isn't mastered to the same level as the OG press either. Traffic Entertainment is about the only company that takes pride in releasing a quality re-issue now days. All companies love putting a sticker on their re-issues saying how great the remaster is but 99% of the time it's a lie.

Comment: Great album but damn why are the bonus tracks not remastered to the same volume level as the rest of the album? Totally annoying.

Comment: This album is so unknown that it can't even classified as underrated. It's a really good album that made me remember me the name "Roc Marciano" and what made me listen to Marcberg as soon as it was released. IMHO "Un or U Out" is better than any Roc Marciano album with the exception of Marcberg.

Comment: AOTP, Snowgoons and other wack, white posers dressed in all black acting ultra hard will get a million reviews on this site with douche bags saying "real hip hop" all over it but when real hip hop actually drops on this site all you hear is crickets. Classic, slept on, heat right here. One of the best post 2000 era hip hop albums to ever drop.
