    Summary

Straight from the Wascal Castle in Hollywood, California, the J-Swift produced Wascals album is about to see the light of day. Yes, one of the long lost Hip Hop masterpieces is finally being released by Delicious Vinyl after 14 years gathering dust in the vault. Back in 1993, J-Swift went into the studio almost immediately after finishing the Pharcyde classic, "Bizarre Ride...", to work with his 'baby' Pharcyde group, The Wascals. Bucwheed, Spit-Anky, Alphie and St Imey had been warming up on the sidelines, while Imani, Booty Brown, Fatlip and Slim Kid Tre were circling the globe. They jumped into the game by dropping their first record called "The Dips" in mid 1994, and followed that single up with the "Class Clown" backed with "Hard Rhymes" release. The Wascals were poised to become a sensation until the group mysteriously imploded and the album got shelved. Jump ahead to the present, the full length album will be released in Spring, and to start things off correctly, DV is pressing up this 3 song vinyl sampler. The tracks, including instrumentals for all three, showcase J-Swift and the Wascals at the height of their powers, as the psychadelic jazz beats blend seamlessly with crazy voiced lyrical shananigans. Do not miss out on some classic mid 90s Hip Hop at it's finest.

Comment: what J-Swift is to Pharcyde (Bizarre ride) is what Prince Paul is to De La (first three albums). I could of sworn that Alphie made a cameo on a movie or TV series on Dangerous Minds or maybe New York Undercover of some sort. I Know he made a cameo on Pharcyde's Runnin video, but when The Wascals came out with Class Clown I knew they had it like a young Souls of Mischief (Hiero)... before Jive. they werent your basic kiddie rap group but all was fun and games and lyricism... Hard Rhymes I should say.
