    Summary

Blue Collar Raps Over Nasty Detroit Beats.

An Ugly Hero is considered a myth. Growing up, the heroes we saw in cartoons and movies were perfectly chiseled, intelligent, and had senses none of us possess. An UGLY HERO is the everyday blue collar individual that makes the world go 'round. These are the heroes that work hard all day, everyday to help ensure that the lives around them are taken care of, and do it all without recognition. They wear themselves into the ground and sacrifice vanity for family.

Apollo Brown, Verbal Kent, and Red Pill are UGLY HEROES.

Comment: This is a great album. Can definitely relate to the topics of 'struggle' etc. However, I must agree with some of the negative comments. Apollo's production doesn't stray away from his previous work. BUT, that's because he's found the perfect formula!

Comment: Still in rotation. Def on of my favorite albums of 2013. You can't go wrong with AB but some of y'all need to chill. Everything he does isn't gold. I can kind of see the viewpoint why some of y'all are calling it slow and boring. I mean I wouldn't go that far but these are not AB's best beats but still I personally think it is solid. I also agree w/ some of y'all that the albums w/ GS and OC are better than this. Further, VK and Pill aren't lyrically acrobats but a lot of things they are saying about the struggle through life and all hit close to me.

Comment: As a blue collar worker striving to make money, I can empathise with the concept of this dope LP. Both Verbal Kent and Red Pill were tight on the mic and Apollo once again did his thing. I can't believe this release almost caught me out cold as I've just purchased a copy - highly recommended!

Comment: Listen to the music before you judge! I'm tired of the " Apollo is a one trick dude". If half of the producers out there did anything close to as good as him we'd have a lot better hip hop. Apollo is the best producer to come out in the last five years! No bull! He gets you o give a chance to artists that you never would otherwise. I applaud the work he has done with these 2 cats and another one in the win column for me.

Comment: Livin Ugly! Dope record. Who is this clown using different names to downrate the album: Me, Loro, Croco, Mick, Kripa, Mano - all the same dude making the same grammar mistake on using "s" - so ahh, it's obvious you're one person just coming back over and over again to hate - probably b/c you're a rapper or producer mad at Apollo. Lol. Grow up. Leave your mark and move on.

Comment: Apollo productions are the most boring and unoriginals of all times. I can't even listen a track. music for sleep on a train. that's the exact definition. I like calm productions too, don't start to wryte thats hes style or other weack comment, i'm not a kid, I know this things. the fact is that even if it's hes style is too much boring. soft people music...

Comment: One of Apollo Brown's best albums yet!! Redpill & Verbal Kent did their best on here they brought it. Who gives a phuck how an MC looks like. What are y'all some fags worried bout looks. As long as any MC does what they suppose to do who gives a phuck about their life style or looks. This album will go down as a CLASSIC!! Believe that. Salute to the Ugly Heroes and especially Apollo for bringing these two MC's together. Hopefully will get another Ugly Heroes album in the future. Support this album Real Rap!!

Comment: people give to much scores to every new album, I think apollo is burning now and lost their creativity , many of his beats are monotonous and slow, the need to expand your arsenal and create more variety of rhythms * Beats * ..........have to be realistic and constructive comment, if every one say is 100% great album, is a liar, is conformist, must be justos y reals exist much better albums that this. well anyway ill give 3 stars for keep the real hip hop. good luky to apollo with future projects

Comment: dope album... apollo is always on point alongside verbal kent. however, red pill curses/swears too much (for instance the curses on the hook of "desperate" are not necessary). daily bread with hassan mackey and the reset are instant classics in my opinion! one.

Comment: Let's start the discussion here: GREAT RECORD. I don't care what anyone else says, the lyrical content on this surpasses 95% of albums out today in any genre. Some real material here. Solid emcees who know their business on the mic and ridiculous beats. Love it.

Comment: This is an incredible album, I haven't listened to anything else since I got it. Apollo's beats are all soulfull and brilliant once again. I absolutely love the honesty of Verbal Kent and Red Pill, I saw in the comments some people weren't feeling that, but I find it very refreshing. This in my opinion is some of Apollo's finest work, 2nd best only to Trophies. I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more from these 2 MC's.

Comment: actually, I cant believe im saying this, and everyone will get angry because its not the same as their opinion, but this gets boring fast. beats all sounds similar. apollos style is kind of getting old to me. same drums, slow tempo and samples all sound similar. not a huge fan of these dudes voices/flow either. 3 stars, I dont see it on repeat like gas mask or trophies. only two solid efforts from apollo. dice game and this just aint great. gotta give some credit thou cause its honest music. few good tracks too.

Comment: Apollo Brown is KING! All his work is ridiculously good. Verbal Kent's delivery and lyrics make this cd work. Red Pill's lyrics are too repetitively just about how he's young and lost in life. He had moments… but way overkilled it. Buy this cuz AB is a BEAST and VK collabo is a good sound! But be prepared to be annoyed by RP.

Comment: red pill is horrible. fat depressing andy milanokis look alike. the most emo rapper i've ever heard. literally. makes slug from atmosphere sound hardcore. fat boy is crying like a wacker version of brother ali that eats sausage on the entire album. why did apollo brown link up with these dopes after dropping projects with o.c. and guilty simpson? I like a lot of the beats but after 3 verses of red pill crying like a bitch trying to stay sober, I had enough. I get the blue collar angle. but blue collar workers have fun too. they don't get on mics and cry about being a broke rapper for 60 minutes, cuz life is short. fuck red pill. never wanna hear that fat ass bum again.

Comment: Pros: Dope all the way through. The sequencing is great (starting to really enjoy the Apollo Brown full length album format: Simple Intro, Music, Simple Outro all w/vinyl crackles). A little different vibe beat-wise from AB (introspective maybe?) but still kept it himself. If you're unfamiliar with Verbal Kent & Red Pill. All you need to know is --- They have good MC voices and they know how to write, and they seem honest. Their verses just sit in the pocket over ABs beats. And one of the best beats from Clouds was used. Overall a good voice/beat marriage. It's a great album to add the AB discography. A straight from the heart LP overall, one to let marinate. Cons: No solo track from either MC but it's not a deal breaker. I thought This Is Life was a Red Pill solo (previous version is) but a VK verse was added. The instrumental to Push (the music only) was previously released but AB changed the drum pattern and sounds. The original was harder. I wonder why he switched it up. Its still a good track and a good album closer. The only other thing I would say is a con no guest verse(s) (not a deal breaker either) but VK & RP held it down all the way through. To me, no real cons. Just buy it and judge for yourself.

Comment: Apollo Brown's beats bang, while Red Pill and Verbal Kent work perfectly off of each other with honest, relatable lyrics. I think Pill and Kent offer much more insightful perspectives into poverty than the usual street rap, and they do so without embellishing their struggles into something they're not. Apollo's all about consistency, and he continues that legacy here, with one of the best batches of beats he has ever released. It's a trip how he continues to get better at executing his sound, and how he's able to stray from it without going so far away that his listeners can't catch up. All in all, I love it.

Comment: BANG! This one is another classic. Please don't listen to these dudes and change up anything Apollo, you're a genius making Hip-hop your way! Who these haters? Just listened to "The Pursuit" off Trophies, then "Ink Blotches" with Guilty, then "Streets Won't Let Me Chill" off Reset, "Something" from Daily Bread, "Statistics" off Gas Mask, then "Shine" off Brown Study, and finally just played "Hero's Theme" from Ugly Heroes. All I can say is Apollo has an incredible range without ever losing his sound and chasing other styles. I'm not saying some aren't similar but dude has his own sound and plenty of variation to my ear - I think some of these fans are just not listening close.

Comment: Was one click away from purchasing. Love Apollo, love mello music group and pretty much anything with their label on it. Apollo, your beats are all starting to sound the same. From "The Reset to "Clouds," "Trophies," to "Dice Game," to this. I love you and what you do, I have all your albums but it's all starting to blend together. Not trying to rag on you or your talent as a producer, just a little advice from a hardcore fan.

Comment: Yeah, Apollo is one of the top 3 producers working today. This is the sound I want when I hear beats - no need for double time snares and 808s and all that trap beat redundancy - it's cool, but this is for me. DOPE.

Comment: No bullshit, this album hits hard. Apollo has perfected his sound - I love it. New to Verbal Kent and Red Pill, and after just a few listens I'm feeling Red Pill out the gate. Some real heavy lines, for me it's like hearing a real person instead of all this false bravado. I like the delivery and patterns. One of the best records so far this year.

Comment: This is how modern hip-hop is supposed to sound. Thank you MMG for making real optimistic optimistic music with no religious propagangda in it. The main problem of nowadays emcees is that they started rapping over shit that dont know anything about like R.A. rugged man with shitty anti-christ propaganda in it. It's better to rap about something you know or let it be positive.

Comment: the beats are sick but verbal kent and red pill both fucking suck. verbal kent sounds like a nerd and raps about nerd shit. raps about being a broke loser with no career that loves rap more then anything even when he sucks at it. red pill got this weird brother ali thing going on. where he tries to sound super soulful as he complains about being broke while trying to stay sober. I don't know what it is, with rappers now. lot of them love to cry. I know a lot of ppl are gonna say it's "real" music. we all got problems. we don't all make depressing white struggle raps looking for sympathy. apollo brown needs to get back to working with some real top of the line emcees. not verbal kent and andy milanokis crying about getting drunk. great beats.

Comment: Album is pretty good Red Pill and Verbal Kent were able to hold down the album, I thought Apollos beats on the Brown Tape were fresh and different this album makes me wonder if Apollo had these beats sittin on the shelf for a while, it sounded similar to his earlier work.

Comment: This album is one of the dopest I've heard in a while. Solid lyrics and Apollo's instru's are on point on this one. I'm not sure why they used "Graves" as the album single. In my opinion, that was the worst beat on the album and I would rate every other song 5* . Lyrics are good on "graves" but the beat is mad annoying. Anyway, overall 5*
