Summary

Braille was one of the coolest artists we ever had the pleasure of interviewing. After banging out a full set @ UGHH World HQ, we caught up with the Oregon native to hear his thoughts on a variety of subjects including his faith, and we get him to discuss a little about his new album (which is killin' em) The I.V. Edition. Watch the interview of the man who the legendary James Brown personally co-signed!

Comment: good interview, and to those hating on god or religion, go get a girl to give you hug or something. Just beacuse Braille is close to god and he expresses that, doesn't mean he is preaching. God Set him free so why shouldnt he express that?

Comment: Didn't notice there were new comments on this video. I know it's not even necessary for me to comment, especially to some of the malicious posts. On the flipside, I think LA Head is being genuine and I'm willing to dialog about these questions. A couple bullet points. 1. My intent isn't to argue and try to PROVE with my words that God is real. God has already proven his existence and his authenticity. We all have freewill and the freedom to express our "opinions" about truth, but at the end of the day "opinions" will eventually have to submit to truth. When we talk about God, we can all share thoughts based on our personal experiences but none of our opinions change who God is. God is God, and he doesn't need our validation or acceptance in order to be real. We will all eventually be confronted with the truth and thankfully God is merciful. 2. As for the comment about how God could do something better then just leaving the bible. There is a lot to touch on regarding that. First of all, God didn't just leave us a book and call it a day. Jesus walked on this earth and died on the cross to bring redemption to mankind. People might distort the truth or hide behind the faith in order to do evil things. That doesn't change who God is and it doesn't change what Jesus did. It simply means that some people recognize the power behind it and use it to execute their own evil plans. As a follower of Christ, I can tell you that God left us much more then just the bible. He also gave us the Holy Spirit. I cannot explain what it's like to have the Holy Spirit to someone who doesn't believe in God. The bible says "the wisdom/truth of God is foolishness to the unbeliever". So I know that when I talk about spiritual things relating to God it sounds foolish when we try to discern it with our flesh. It takes faith to follow Christ and the bible says "without faith it is impossible to please God". Please understand where I'm coming from with that. I'm simply saying "I know things like the bible and the Holy Spirit sound foolish to some people. I can't make it sound any different then it is." Ultimately, we aren't really in a position to judge God's methods. If he is the creator, then he has a better understanding of how to handle things. 3. As for me being a "preacher". I never claimed to be a preacher. I do share what I believe in my music. I would be faking the funk if I did anything less. All the artists I enjoyed while growing up shared their beliefs in their music as well. I approach music the same way many artists do. I share my thoughts, my beliefs, my life experiences, my feelings and creativity. It's not a gimmick, it's my real life. I wasn't born in a Christian home. The first raps I wrote at age 13 were primarily immature battle rhymes and a few rhymes about girls. I slowly started trying to be more positive in my music and eventually was told the Gospel of Jesus Christ and I recognized it as truth after a year of praying and searching. People with all different types of beliefs work in all career fields. Almost any belief system imaginable is represented by some individual in almost every possible career from music, to sports, to grocery store clerks. 4. As for contradiction in my rhymes about "blowing sets". It's all a matter of context and perception. The stage or a performance on stage is often referred to as a "set". Me saying "I blow sets" is the same as saying "I rock shows". For me to state that I do well in my career field doesn't contradict my message at all. It's just like someone saying they are a good cook or a good builder. By no means do I think I'm the best, or even close to being the best. However, I am confident that I've become skilled in my trade. I'm able to make a living and provide for my family. I've been able to perform on the same stages as many legendary artists and have been well received by the audience. I do my best to stay humble, and I truly am humbled knowing that I'm not the best and that I wouldn't be where I'm at in life without God's grace. If I didn't believe in what I was doing then I would have quit along time ago. 5. As for what my "message" is. Every song and every lyric is simply an expression from my life. My message is definitely love, redemption and Christ - there is no hate involved. I don't typically rap about the same topic every song, so in terms of topics - I cover a wide range. Just as life is filled with a wide range of thoughts, experiences, and emotions. I've actually done songs about the "bad of religion" and the mis-use of the faith. Check out songs like "Guilty By Association". Final thought, I don't claim to be perfect or know everything. But I have a peace that surpasses understanding - I know God is real. I'm not bashing what anyone else believes, and I'm not saying that I have all the answers. I'm not saying every church is right... humans fail constantly. People claim to represent God and do terrible things. That's why I suggest that people seek after God for themselves. Eliminate the middle man and approach God with faith. He who seeks will find - taste and see that GOD is good. - further questions about faith or this interview can be directed to my personal email at braillehiphop @ hotmail

Comment: GOOD POINT NESK BUT TO BRAILLE I HAVE ONE SUGGESTION. PREACH THE GOOD AND BAD ABOUT RELIGION. GIVE A FAIR STANDPOINT THAT WILL MAKE YOU EQUALLY ACCEPTED BETWEEN CRITICS, BUT KEEP YOUR ORIGINALITY AND RIGHTEOUSNESS.

Comment: I believe the world today is so hard headed. Too many open opinions are accepted, it's just become the norm. If these were biblical times you'd all parish and that would be the last of you. I do belive that being igonorant about God is one thing and Violently denying and try to spread your disbelief amongst others is morally wrong. But then again who follows morals anyway? I do. I believe the Braille, Like LMNO both have this unique style in which they are young men and they arent into rims, blings, shooting people and smoking weed (Exception to LMNO). I think when these critics see these guys aor hear these guys, they think it's all gimmicks. If a man has the right to use God as a gimmick he wouldnt be as successful. Let's look at it from this point of view, with respect to braille. If Braille indeed was using God's name in vain, but in that he influenced others too look into God and those who did got a life changing experience out of it, He's still done some good. Now if he was real about it in which I believe he is because im a 22 y/o male from Los Angeles and my belief in God is unbreakable and I know that their are so many of us out there who believe in God but just not the religion as a whole. Some of these young people are influenced and even though they believe when they are around their friends they are in vast denial. I believe alot of people are in denial on this comment board, but im not one to Judge. If you guys have an issue with Religion take it out on Religion as a whole and not just God and the person who believes in him. I dont believe you spreading around your negative feelings towards other people is gonna make anything change. To make a long story short, in 20 years, 30 years eventually when you die you'll know the truth and you'll be speechless so just enjoy this ride of denial that you guys embark on stop trying to tamper with and shake other peoples faith. -Ant Just copped two cd's havent listened to them yet, but keep up the good work man. Sometimes you can just feel the God is with you and you dont owe an explanation to no one. I understand you're an artists and you kind of have to reply, I understand its always with good intent but still dont mind these people. They are trying to turn their trials and tribulations into someone elses religion..i hope that makes sense. Word Up Braille keep it poppin.

Comment: Braille-Respect for your reply and to you as a lyricist. but I just have a different perspective on what god and true religion is.as for my question I dont think I answered it. see if god or "jesus" really were righteous im sure he could have done something to teach us besides leaving the bible. I would just like to suggest to you or other people reading this to rethink what god really is. is he a man, myth, mind state, ect. now as for you as a MC/PREACHER? whatever truthfully I just thing your using god as the ultimate gimmick. your lyricism is weak you got the vocab down, but I keep hearing contradiction saying you will blow sets, yet your trying to preach god and peace ?what exactly is your message?redemption?peace?hate?

Comment: LA Head - thanks for taking time to check out the video. I see you have animosity towards God and religion. I can understand your complaints and skepticism. A lot of people have done fowl things through out history and used religion or God as their defense/excuse. I can actually answer your question about people suffering. God gave us free will... which is the reason me and you can discuss God and state our opinions freely. Through history, mankind has used the free will to pursue greed and we have oppressed others for the sake of our own benefit. I agree that there are many troubling things happening in our world - but I choose to look to God for redemption, rather then blame him. We can all express our own opinions and thoughts during our lifespan. In the end, truth can't really be disputed. Either something is true or it isn't. I believe that God is true, the creator of all life and that he sent his son Jesus for redemption. I don't hate people who disagree with me and I wasn't born in a family who believed in God. I have found that there is more to this life then what we see, and despite the failure of many believers to properly represent the faith - I think it's worth it for all of us to reach out to God directly on our own. Regarding the music, I'm just happy to be in a position to make music full time, tour and support my family. I never expected everyone to like it - every artist must be prepared to face criticism during their careers. I'm very fortunate to have enough supporters and people encouraging me to stay focussed on my craft. Peace

Comment: Yo Braille, that Daniel Plainview dude is guy somewhat quoting the movie, There Will Be Blood. I don't think he had any ill intent at all, but found it all appropriate to say given the conversation about God. But while we're at it, it's a dope movie.

Comment: I'm not claiming to be a prophet brother. I'm just one man doing his best to live for Christ. We can all express our opinions here on earth, and I respect other peoples opinions. Like I said in the interview, it's not about ME being right. I have faith in God - the creator of life - and people don't have to agree with me. Eventually we will all stand before God, it's not a matter of opinions. If it's truth, it will be validated and proven weather or not we believe in it.
