    Summary

Warren G exploded out of the burgeoning Long Beach rap scene in 1994 with the smash single 'Regulate'. This debut release quickly became a massive hit, peaking at #2 on the Billboard charts and pushing his debut 'Regulate... G-Funk Era' album up to the same position. The album eventually went triple-platinum as Warren's laid-back raps and funk-based grooves quickly became his trademark style... the 'G-Funk' style. Warren followed up this success with multiple chart-topping releases including the 2004 union with Snoop Dog and Nate Dog- 213. 213's the 'Hard Way' release quickly went gold further establishing Warren as a hip hop legend. His 2005 release 'In The Mid-Nite Hour' created an underground frenzy and debuted at a robust # 15 on Billboard's R&B/ Rap Albums Chart. With over 5 million records sold, Warren G. is an icon whose public eagerly awaits what he brings next with the much anticipated 'The G-Files.'

Comment: I have never really been a big fan of west coast music, but I will give Warren G some respect for expanding his sound on this CD. Definitely not "Regulator", but not totally garbage either. Usually, when a producer experiments with their sound, to me....it's a sign of growth. At some point, you gotta open your mind up to other things. Not his best work, but a pretty solid album.

Comment: Warren G is what made me HATE the West Coast. Him and Nate Dogg... that was probably when I was most tempted to brak up with HipHop. That was what kicked in the door to the pop era. I hated the singing on HipHop tracks and I will honestly not even give it a try. I appreciate how some may love it but I will leave it for you guys. I just never really felt this dude. As west as I got was D.O.C. as he was from Texas... NWA was DOPE and Easy was the man (til I found he was just the face behind Wren's lyrics) Wren... DOPE. Dre... meh and then Snoop's FIRST joint... yeah, now THERE was an album. I said after that he will never do it agian. It will be impossible to top. Proven correct.

Comment: It's not a very high-lyrical album, I give more credit to his beat production work. I'm feelin the concepts and subject matter, like on "What's Wrong". Raekwon does a good appearance on "100 Miles and Runnin". I like "The West is Back", but I think that it needs The Game on it with a title like that. Overall, it's decent but I would only recommend this album to fans of the West Coast sound...
