Item Summary
yU first gained acclaim as 1/3 of the Washington DC group Diamond District along with Oddisee and XO. Then he continued to garner success with his solo debut Before Taxes which was named to the Best of 2010 List by HipHopDX, Al Lindstrom, and Above Ground Mag.. yU then sharpened his skills through performances on a European tour and appearances at CMJ, SXSW, A3C, and the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festi val. yU is back with his sophomore project The Earn a progression that is as fluid, lyrical, and thought provoking as his critically acclaimed debut. His new album, The Earn, is a timely meditation on the struggle to advance, set afire by yU's potent wordplay.

Comment: on a scale from 1-5 stars, stuff that I wouldn't even listen to is somewhere in the negative stars. that said, I give this 2. every song that starts sounding ok is killed halfway through with some annoying r&b chorus. I bought the 3 best-sounding tracks in the form of an mp3 while I waited for my copy to arrive because the snippets sounded alright, and I got tired of listening to those before my vinyl even arrived. currently this is sitting in my ebay stack, it's money green vinyl so it should sell. *boring* bring back the diamond district vibe from the first LP please. it seems like if oddisee or apollo brown isn't associated with anything out of MMG, it falls flat.

Comment: Great album. Lyrically strong. Fuck McNulty's ear, he can keep that opinion, enunciating every word like LMNO aint nothing I'm listening for. Great album.

Comment: Solid album. Similar to his debut, Before Taxes, except the production is better. Album flows the whole way through, skipping a track is unnecessary.

Comment: Certified by I as a Five, this album carries like so many of the vintage records we listen too from our parents collection that symbolized the tempo, beats, social dialect and narrative of a generation, and specific time and space in times space, this is just simply Dope

Comment: the underground -where everybody flocks to once they get tired of the wackness /currently the down south pop sound. finally somebody is repping the dc metero area again with the raw hip hop sound. type sound cats fiend for. I know alot of cats in nyc are hating and dont want to recognize what diamond district is doing. hold it down and dont get on that fucking uptodate wack ass down south shit

Comment: Yu made the best album I've heard all year. One of the most lyrical emcees alive today, seems like yu always has something heavy to say and in an interesting way. Definite favorite after just a few days of listening on constant repeat.

Comment: as much as I like yu, i'm disappointed, pretty much the same deal as before taxes, intelligent lyrics, weak beats, I really thought he was going to step it up on this one. what I was really hoping for was an yu album produced entirely by oddisee, that would have the potential to be classic, besides that still better than most

Comment: Figured I would give it actual stars rating now that it lets you. "Blind" and "If U Down" are spectacular. The rest is good. A wonderful, and worthwhile, project to follow up Before Taxes. Rachael. You will have to wait until 13th to get a physical copy. I would check out any Exclusive Company in your local area. Otherwise there is one right off Brady and North in Milwaukee.
