SummaryOperating out of the bay area, MC Zion and producer Amp Live combine trip-hop, trance, drum n' bass, and reggae with lyrical content covering relationships, social injustices, and ghetto-life reflections on their third and most serious album to date. After wetting their fans' collective frontal lobe with the Family Business mixtape last year, Zion I return on True & Livin' with a full 18 tracks featuring fellow socially conscious artists Talib Kweli, Gift of Gab, Del The Funky Homosapian, Aesop Rock, and social activist Fred Hampton. Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Amp Live met Mt. Airy, Illadelphia native MC Zion at Moorhouse College in Atlanta, GA, where the two founded the five-member group Metafour. While Metafour quickly disbanded, the chemistry between Zion and Live continued to flourish and after relocating to Berkeley, CA, the duo debuted as Zion I in 2000 with Mind Over Matter. Three years later, Zion I's sophomore album Deep Water Slang was nominated by both The Source and Vibe for "Best Independent Album of the Year," garnering them the recognition to tour alongside artists such as Kool Keith, Run D.M.C., Lyrics Born, Del, De La Soul, Jurassic 5, Mos Def and The Roots. MC Zion's enlightened reflections showcased over deliciously eclectic production by Amp Live will undoubtedly make True & Livin' a serious competitor for number one indie album of the year, again in 2005.
