El Scribes

El Scribes is a native-New Yorker who represents hip-hop's birthplace to the fullest. Growing up on the city's underground hip-hop scene in the late '90s and early '00s, under various aliases, El cut his teeth as a DJ, producer, MC and the youngest employee ever hired at the legendary indie record store Fat Beats — landing a job at its flagship location as soon as he turned 14. He has since been an active member of the community, producing records, throwing events and writing for publications like Ambrosia For Heads and UGHH. With one Timb-clad foot planted firmly in the past and the other treading determinedly into the unknown, El aims to both preserve the culture's roots and the legacies of his musical heroes while still helping to expose and promote hip-hop's next generation of innovators.
