Welcome to Hand Over Fist, the newest full-length project from the Doomtree camp. The disc is the collaborative product of emcee Mike Mictlan and virtuoso producer Lazerbeak. In a pageant of epic imagery, Mike Mictlan confronts the central and confounding question- how are our great passions reconciled with our short lives. With mainstream swagger and precision, Mictlan employs an understated poetry to convey his themes: fire, redemption, flight, and resistance. The production bears Lazerbeak’s signature; propulsive drums and bold guitar-driven melodies make every song a contagion. During a guest feature by P.O.S., Lazerbeak delivers on the anthemic tenor that made him an underground favorite. Together the duo produce an album of trial and triumph, and a street affidavit on the human condition.
The Doomtree collective is nine-members deep, eight years old, and making noise across the country. Their most recent, self-titled album spendt three weeks at #1 on CMJ’s hip hop charts and made an appearance on the Billboard’s Heatseekers regional charts. Members have shocased at SXSW, toured annually with the Warped Tour, and earned enthusiastic reviews from Urb, Okayplayer, and CMJ. Doomtree’s steady ascent in the indie world has been credited to the group’s DIY ethos and the charisma of its performers. The’ve worked and lived together since they were kids- sharing money, homes, colds gear, and stages coast to coast.
