This is the first single from the forthcoming Stones Throw/Adult Swim collaboration album Chrome Children.
The late J.Dilla produced both of these songs. “Take It Back,” finds Madlib reminiscing about the early days of his rap career and commenting on the changes he’s seen in over fifteen years in the biz. Call it a hazier follow up to Quasimoto’s “Rappcats,” by one of the veterans of the indie hip hop biz.
Newcomer Guilty Simpson, first heard on Jaylib’s Champion Sound and recently having blazed on “Jungle Love” from Dilla’s posthumous The Shining, comes with his first official release as an exclusive Stones Throw recording artist. A banging anthem in classic Dilla form, Simpson murders the track with verses bred in Detroit’s dirty streets.
