The Mighty Underdogs is a new Hip Hop super group that appeared literally out of nowhere and has since made a lot of noise on the Rap landscape. The group consists of The Gift of Gab (Blackalicious), Lateef the Truthspeaker (Latyrx), and Headnodic (bassist/producer Crown City Rockers) and was formed when Gab recorded vocals with Lateef on tracks produced by Headnodic and it was instant chemistry. The music flowed so smoothly that recording just a few songs became an official EP which eventually turned into a full-length album. The Prelude is that six-song EP and is the precursor to their forthcoming album to be released later this year. Featured artists include DJ Shadow, MF DOOM, Ladybug Mecca, and Rashaan Ahmad from the Crown City Rockers. “Gunfight” features MF DOOM (1/2 of Madvillian) and is incredibly infectious with its Wild West theme incorporating a Southwestern guitar twang and a spooky, slow whistling trill. “Bring Me Back” reminisces over the late 80’s and early 90’s that gives love to classic television shows and films of those eras. DJ Shadow lends his creativity and scratching talents on “U.F.C. (United Flow Champions)” and Ladybug Mecca makes an appearance on “Lovelife.” Each track stands strongly on its own and each one is evidence of the chemistry and talent of these three individuals coming together. The Prelude is a must-own, six-song limited edition digipak EP and is only a taste of what’s to come from the Mighty Underdogs.
