Gay Dog Food is the fourth musical release from artist Mykki Blanco and the first in a campaign of releases leading up Blanco’s debut album in 2015. Recorded in far eastern Russia, London, Berlin and New York City with production credits from Gobby, Sasha DZA, Low Concept, Naked & Supreme Cuts, Gay Dog Food is a record that perfectly encapsulates the past, present and future of Mykki Blanco in its genre splicing and choice of production collaborators. Mykki Blanco’s roots in industrial noise music are ever present on Gay Dog Food.
“A Moment With Kathleen” featuring Riot Grrl pioneer Kathleen Hanna of Le Tigre and The Julie Ruin, voice looped and sampled into a spoken word collage, could not be a better example of Blanco’s many faces melding into one. Mykki has cited Hanna as a major formative influence musically, the pair join forces for the first time on a track that is experimental and fun without pretension. An artist should keep pushing, keep reinventing, keep striving for better music; “Gay Dog Food” is the new Mykki Blanco, it’s music, its experimentation, it’s sound art, “you can choose to call me a gay rapper, you can choose to not even call me a rapper if you want to, it doesn’t matter, i’m a punk a creative punk and im going to continue to create and entertain without boundaries. Gay Dog Food is just the start of where I hope to go creatively and commercially, this moment now is really the beginning.
