  • Fela Kuti
The inimitable Fela Kuti was a powerhouse of African jazz, funk and liberation politics who changed Nigerian music and social discourse in ways that permanently altered its country's landscape. Afro-Shrine was Fela's nightclub, a place that he converted into a personal laboratory of music performance, dance, and was free of the constraints of the Nigerian military state that was active at the time. It was a place that he declared was "the abode of the Gods of Africa, where you could not enter if you had a bad mind"; a legendary nightclub that transcended the idea of a nightclub. This design pays homage to Fela's vision of of what a music and social club can be with a 70's Afro-Nite Light font overlayed on top of the African continent and Fela's saxophone. A shirt made for all the Fela fans, Afro Beat heads and those with a love for African music.
