Bobby Wilson

I'll Be Your Rainbow

Product Details
"I'll Be Your Rainbow" is the perfect example of how a classic '70s soul album should sound. Great songs (from Bobby and Motown hit-maker Vernon Bullock), wonderful orchestration (courtesy of Motown legend Paul Riser and the TK hit machine's Mike Lewis), and stellar musicians and singers (including The Jones Girls on background vocals) combine wonderfully with Bobby's impassioned vocals.

Bobby Wilson's recording career began with "Let Me Down Slow" a one-off single for legendary Volt Records in 1968 and seems to end with "Honesty (Is The Best Part)" for Dark Star in 1983. In between this, he signed with Vernon Bullock's indie Chain label in 1974 and debuted with "Here Is Where The Love Is". That song appears to have caught the attention of Buddah Records (probably Cecil Holmes) which signed him to an album deal. The result was "I'll Be Your Rainbow", a strong 10 cut album with echoes of Barry White at one end and Marvin Gaye at the other. Despite Buddah's strong R&B presence at the time, this album was destined for obscurity where it languished for almost 20 years until a brief reissue in the early '90s.

Since that time, there have been steady requests for its reissue from the US all the way to Japan, where it is now something of a cult classic. Housed in a special 6 panel digipak with fully restored artwork, it was been remastered from the original analog tapes and now sounds even better than ever.
