Description
Heavyweight bossa funk and jazz from Brasil pressed loud on wax! The formula behind Brasil 70 follows that of our previously released Mexico 70 - good bossa funk and jazz is rare as hell, obscenely expensive, and often pressed low on poor quality vinyl. This new series - which will continue to stretch further into South America - takes raw, funky source material, and remasters, edits and chops it together into dance-floor filling smashes! The legendary album released by Nilo Espinoza's Bossa 70 is insanely rare, and previously available on vinyl only on a rare pressing on a Peruvian Phillips LP. Now, the standout cut from that LP - the cross-cultural funky melting pot of Bossa 70s "Berimbau" is offered to DJs remasterd from the analog tapes. Likewise, Mario Castro Neves' "Nana" is one of those bossa jazz cuts that never leaves dancers denied of a floor shaking good time, but was only available on vinyl on an uber-rare LP pressed on Brasilian and Peruvian RCA and a poor sounding early 70s compilation. This version, remastered from the analog tapes, hits hard! Sonia's "Influencia Do Jazz" was previously only ever available on a rare pressing on the Mexican subsidiary of RCA and is the perfect complement to Mario Castro Neves' masterpiece. Side B kicks off with Nico Gomez's sublime "Rio," loud and heavy. Sidney Marzullo's "Ta Na Cara" is a relatively unknown Brasilian private-pressed gem that will bring a smile to anyone's face, and the Fonit group's chilled-out "Islandia Bossa" is perfect for those early sets at the club, or for any house party. with yet another band besting Rufus Thomas - this time with a superb rendition of his "Push And Pull."
