Do you want more? Hip -hop has evolved into a new sound. Artists like Odd Future, Kendrick Lamar, and Lupe Fiasco have widely been accepted by the underground, without having any problems receiving commercial radio air-play. The problem is that there are too many other artists who have gotten major record label deals and have done absolutely nothing with them. Picking bad beats and recording lyrics that do not encourage movement, change, or being just plain proud as hell of who you are does not, will not, and should not ever give anyone longevity in the music industry.

Artists like Rakim, The Roots, Wu-Tang, MF Doom, Q-Tip, Busta Rhymes, and Common have been a staple in hip-hop for many years. The idea seems simple; don't be a one-hit wonder. Mr. Vigilant's sound is submerged in everything hip-hop from soul to boom-bap, while encompassing several elements that deserve the same air-play as the Jay-Z's and Lil Wayne's of the world. Hailing from the same high school as Capital D (All Natural), the Analog Addicts, and Rockie Fresh (just to name a few) there was not anything else to do in the south suburbs except play sports or make music. He did both.

The Jacket is a collection of songs that Mr. Vigilant recorded a few years ago. Many artists have entered the game without finding their niche or "jacket" if you will, which has led to the overabundance of rappers that just don't last long. Mr. Vigilant has a lot more respect for music, hip-hop, and its history in general. What's extremely important is the growth of the artist. Mr. Vigilant grew up during the creation of this album. The album will grow on you as you listen.
