Description
On the heels of music industry and politcal revolution, Washington D.C.'s OP Swamp 81 debuts Peau Noire, Masques Blancs, an electronic soul smorgasbord, that reaches backwards and catapults forward all in one motion.

Danedra, Dre King, Slimkat78 and Bilal Salaam had been exchanging musical ideas well before they decided to record PNMB. "We've performed live together in different combinations more tImes than we can count." says Salaam. "The collective spirit was easy for us to replicate on wax. All we needed was the common thread of an inspirational theme to connect us a bit more."

OP Swamp agreed on the refrains of the 1981 Brixton Riots, along with the studies of existentialist philosopher Frantz Fanon as initial thematic layers. They stacked more ideas in the form of horns, keys (Dre King), vocals (Danedra and Bilal Salaam) and electronic drums/samples (Slimkat78). The result of this culmination is a completely fresh sound, at certain times mantra-like and at others, absolutely ear-stretching.

"Another Day's" double boom bap groove illuminates optimism in its simplest forms. "Decompose" waltzes through the circle of life, and "Fasho's" lush horns and sparse vocals dismiss the idea of "demonic forces" as self-inflicted foolery. These are the sounds and sentiments of a new generation of soul.
