Death Gate, marks the return of LA-based DJ/Producer William Bensussen (The Gaslamp Killer) after his 2009 release, My Troubled Mind. While staying true to his spacey electro-funk beat, Death Gate offers up a darker vibe that, as Bensussen explains, explores "the places between life and death, and the shattering of inner journeys that wait for us there." A somewhat bleak exploration yes, but one that's filled with an energy that keeps you listening. Originally from San Diego where he spent time spinning records in the Gaslamp district, Bensussen moved north to LA in 2006 and there helped found The Low End Theory, "L.A.'s monolithic weekly showcase for uncut beat-driven tracks." Death Gate is a 5 track compiliation full of great drums, forgotten breaks, and cinematic snippets from out-of-reach film bins that's a far cry from the subject it expresses. Down right good music.
