Hailing from Detroit, Danny Brown (real last name Sewell) rose to fame after utilizing social media to his advantage in the mid-2000s, establishing his career as one of the most strikingly unique rappers in The Game. With fans instantly gravitating towards his eccentric personality and curious combination of a hustler’s mentality mixed with the antics of a class clown the rapper carved a distinctive lane of his own, delivering his unique blend of vulgar, tongue-in-cheek and jovial rhymes over forward-thinking production. Best known for his individuality and distinctive high-pitched rapping style, Brown released his debut solo album in 2010, following the release of his collaborative effort with G-Unit‘s own Tony Yayo. While many thought 50 Cent would then add Brown to his official roster, such a label wasn’t a perfect fit for the outlandish emcee. Many asserted that the lack of a formal offer was directly related to the rapper’s fashion taste, as he infamously opted for skinny jeans over what rappers at the time were stereotyped to wear. He later penned a deal with Fool’s Gold before eventually being recruited by Warp Records, leveling up his steady foundation of mixtapes and making his major label debut in 2016 with When It Rain. From providing the theme to the sitcom Fresh Off the Boat to working on a Dr. Seuss-inspired children’s book dedicated to his teenage daughter to adding to his growing discography, Danny Brown’s vibrant creativity knows no bounds.

My first job I ever had I washed pots for a buffet, but I lied on my application I was 14, but I lied that I was 16. Then I worked there for two years, and by the time I was 16, I already started selling weed. But then I got a job at a Burger King for like a little minute but I was already selling weed, so I was like, "Forget that."
I don't even feel like I've really got a big, wet check yet. You know, I ain't got my big check yet. To me, just trusting your gut, trusting your heart and not really thinking about what other peopled doing and what the industry is doing. Just doing what you want to do. No, I don't really read too many books, but I read stuff that I want to read. The last books that I read was the love biography, The Ugly Book and before that, I read the JayZ Decoded and I read the Prodigy book, so it had to be stuff that I really, though want to know about, but no, I don't really read. I try, but I can't.
Well, I just did. It's called O. I think I'm like a British poet. If ever [inaudible 01:59] time would probably be Rocko from Rocko's Modern Life. I think that's the first time in a cartoon where I watched it almost like an MTV sitcom aspect, so I felt Rocko was real even though he was like kangaroo or whatever he was. But I didn't look at him like a cartoon character.
My favorite video game as a younger ... I always played a lot of basketball video games, so whatever basketball video was hot at the time, like whether it was Double Dribble all the way from when it started with Lakers verse Celtics, and all the way to NBA Live and then NBA2K, so always just played basketball video games.
My first crush? I think my first crush was like in preschool. It was a light-skinned girl. Look, I was in preschool. How old could you be, like four or five? But it was light-skinned girl named Vanilla, out of anything she could have been. That was my first crush. Yeah, it was sister's sleepover, one of her friends. Just stayed up late enough and just make my move. That was all that was. It wasn't good, though, because I ain't know what I was doing, so it's whack. It's was whack. I was like, "That's what it's about?" I wasn't shit.
That's nothing new. I'm always here. I'm always ready to work, so you know TD, they always talk, so they can't even do a black hippy album, so we doubt that would ever happen. Just Paul just restyle with no respect, but at the end of the day, I couldn't complain. I'm in the best situation I've ever been in in my life. I'm real humble just to even be involved in that situation.
My favorite song is Eminem Rain Man and my favorite album is encore. I think he the best to ever do it at the end of the day. I don't know. A lot of rapping, I guess. A lot of bars. One thing that I'm saying is drive. I don't know how to drive a car. Everybody should know how to drive a car. I could be with somebody one day, something bad could happen and I could be able to drive her to the hospital, but I don't even know how to drive, so we'd be fucked up. Even if I don't know how to drive for my personal use, I should learn how to drive just for ... But I'm kind of scared of cars. Shrimp and cheese grits.
Speaker 2: Continue cooking for another 10 minutes. Serve hot. One Allrecipes member stated, "Best shrimp and grits I have ever had."
Danny Brown: Nothing, but my jeans is too tight. My message to the youth is just be you, man. Don't worry about what anybody else say. Don't worry about what you see on TV. Don't worry about what anybody else tell you. Just do what you want to do with you life, because it's your life.
Action Bronson: Ah, man. Just do what you do. Listen to your parents. Make sure and eat your fucking vitamins. Get strong. Drink your milk. Do what Daddy and Mommy says.
