This boom-bap bonanza comes in the form of a completely sample free remake of the entire “Midnight Marauders” album, and after spending the summer of 2016 in the studio studying, dissecting and re-creating all the original samples Tribe used, DL laced the colorful and melodic grooves in true hip-hop style adding harmonic vocal chants over the beats. His aim was to strictly follow the original Tribe arrangement, – but without sampling any breaks – to garnish subtle touches of musical magic, providing his own lift and vibe for each track.

With numerous 2016 releases, including his Craft Singles series and The Carrollton Heist with rapper Curren$y, Alchemist hits 2017 with a new chapter in the Rapper’s Best Friend instrumental series. The fourth in its series, Rapper’s Best Friend 4, is comprised of instrumentals of tracks produced by the Alchemist for artists such as Sean Price, ScHoolboy Q, Action Bronson, Migos, Danny Brown and more.

The third in its series, Rapper’s Best Friend 3 is comprised of instrumentals of tracks produced by the Alchemist for artists such as Schoolboy Q, Styles P and Mobb Deep.

K-def incorporated all this weapons to make timeless current day music regardless of perceived limitations. Creatives often refer to their optimal stride in coined terms like “The magic hour” or “In the zone”. Using all the tools and experience at his disposal (mainly MPC’s), K captured his stride documented in these generous 23 tracks. When asked about the album’s background and composition, he said simply, (he) “was in the moment”. It resonated and there you have it. K-Def’s new LP is titled “In the Moment” so you’re “in luck” if you’re “in the know.”

The album is aptly titled where 15 musical scenes, each with their own unique settings, are stitched harmoniously together to provide a universal message to the audience in which they use the gift of their own interpretation. At just over 2 hours long, the listener is given an unfiltered front row performance into the heart, mind and soul of the the artist. This latest effort from Damu the Fudgemunk is of typical and unorthodox proportions.

Stro Elliot is an incredible producer and performer. Plain and simple. His productions mold the past and the present into futuristic soul splashed gems that turn heads whenever they are heard. His ability to breathe new life into already classic records is one of the reasons he is one of the most respected producers of the day. From “The Summer Love Song”, where he beats the shit out of Kool and the Gang’s perrenial classic “Summer Madness”, to the absolutely ridiculous flip of “Soul II Stro”, to “Virginia Wolf”, where he sings about relationship woes, it’s all flawless. Street Corner Music is proud to present the debut LP from one of the best to do it.
